HOW MUCH TIME IS NEEDED TO OBTAIN FILM PERMITS?

Permit Processing:

  • Handheld Camera: within 72 hours, for small-scale filming with only handheld cameras and without obstructing public roads.
  • Other Permits: as a general rule, a minimum of 10 business days (Monday to Friday) is required for processing the necessary permits. This period should be extended to 15 business days whenever traffic closures, changes to street furniture, etc., are required.

IS THERE ANY COST FOR OBTAINING THE FILM PERMITS?

All services offered by the Málaga Film Office are free of charge. However, there are minimal municipal fees for COMMERCIAL filming in public spaces (commercials, corporate videos, music videos, and still photography). Non-commercial filming (feature films, short films, TV programs, documentaries, and institutional videos) will be exempt from this fee.

Fees are waived for projects that are non-advertising, social awareness, or NGO filming, provided that the film promotes the city and acknowledges the collaboration of the Málaga City Council and its Málaga Film Office in the credits and promotional materials.

CAN I RESERVE A PEDESTRIAN STREET FOR FILMING AND/OR FOR PARKING PRODUCTION VEHICLES?

YES. The only requirement for these cases is to provide Málaga Film Office with all the specifications of the technical equipment, and/or the number, type, and dimensions of the vehicles that are planned to be installed in the pedestrian zone. If it is a street within the protected area of ​​the historic center, which is only accessible via security camera, for which you will need to submit the Vehicle Registration Certificate and Technical Data Sheet for each vehicle that will need to access the area with at least 5 business days in advance.

HOW DO I INDICATE ON THE FILM PERMIT APPLICATION THE AREA THAT I WOULD LIKE TO RESERVE?

1st: Please indicate your desired filming location, as well as your desired parking location for the technical team vehicles. Regarding parking, we will always do our best to obtain permission for your desired space; however, on occasion, we may have to provide alternative locations.

2nd: Complete address – or clear references, date and schedule of the reservation, and the linear meters required

A map of the location should ALWAYS be included with the marked areas.

HOW SHOULD THE FILMING AREA AND THE PARKING AREAS BE MARKED?

Film location/set: All equipment on public roads must be marked for the safety of citizens, with cables secured and protected and cones placed around the technical equipment. It is recommended to hire blockers or production assistants to help safeguard the area. They should wear reflective vests and/or filming accreditation, be respectful of pedestrians, and avoid conflict by seeking alternative solutions to sensitive situations and thus prevent potential complaints.

Reserving space for parking: In Málaga, there are three types of streets with regulated parking, which the Local Police can reserve using their own fencing at no cost. Even so, it is advisable to mark the area until filming is complete using signs that Málaga Film Office will lend upon deposit, which will be refunded upon their return.

  • WHITE ZONE: Free of charge
  • GREEN ZONE: Residents, also free of charge
  • BLUE ZONE: The opnly space that is subject to charges and only during certain days and times, which must be paid in advance in the SMASSA offices, (tel: 952 060 104) http://www.aparcamientosmalaga.com/ and a copy of the receipt must be provided to the MFO in order to coordinate the reservation of the space with the Local Police.

In order to park on pedestrian streets, it will be necessary to send us the vehicle’s technical data sheet to verify that the weight does not require a special pavement protection permit.

HOW DO I REQUEST A TRAFFIC INTERRUPTION FOR FILMING?

Permit processing: a minimum of 15 business days is required, which may need to be extended depending on the extent of the closure and/or the project.
It is essential to indicate the street(s) involved, the closure schedule, and whether the closure will be total or intermittent (please specify the duration). The Traffic Department requests that any closures be scheduled for Sundays and/or outside of peak traffic hours to minimize disruption to residents.

I NEED TO PUT A CRANE ON THE SIDEWALK, WHAT DO I DO?

  • Detail ALL the vehicle’s specifications on the application (weight, dimensions, etc. Send tech chart if possible)
  • Indicate the space it will occupy in m2.
  • Protect the pavement at all times using wooden wedges until the vehicle is removed.
  • Mark all technical equipment for the security of pedestrians, indicating alternative routes when necessary.

WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE TO CANCEL OR POSTPONE FILMING?

MFO must be immediately notified by phone and email of any change, cancellation or postponement. If our office is closed and there are less than 24 hours until filming, the Local Police must also be notified by calling 092.

HOW SHOULD I PROCEED WHEN THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF BAD WEATHER ON THE REQUESTED SHOOT DATE?

Please check the forecast prior to applying in order to submit any alternative Weather Days in your initial application and comply with the minimum timeframe of 10 business days. These alternative dates can be cancelled as long as it is informed with a minimum notice of 24 hours.
