Fanny Medina was from Malaga, one of the pioneers who was able to access university after the ban preventing women from pursuing higher education was lifted.

Produced by Magnetika Films, with the participation of Canal Sur and the sponsorship of the Malaga Provincial Council.

Her story has remained unknown for more than 70 years. A graduate in Medicine from the Faculty of Cádiz, driven by the dream of practicing her profession, Fanny’s life was not without difficulties. She faced not only the Spanish Civil War, but also all the conventions and moral standards of her time that dictated that a woman should dedicate her life to the seclusion and care of the family home. Committed to the fight for women’s rights and social justice, and in her quest to discover a cure for cancer, Fanny also contributed to scientific advancement through pioneering research on radium, and even ran her own practice. Unjustly forgotten, now is the time to remember the story of who would be the first woman to practice medicine professionally in Andalusia.
