12/01/2018 Malaga Film Office reports a total of 460 audiovisual productions attended in 2017

Film shoots that chose Malaga as their film location in 2017 brought in an investment of over two million Euros, with a total of 460 audiovisual productions attended last year.

The Yearly Activity Report issued by Malaga Film Office, the municipal film office which is also linked to the Malaga Film Festival, has proven 2017 to have been a very positive year. From the 460 audiovisual projects attended, a total of 202 productions were filmed, together with 165 film permits processed in coordination with the different municipal departments, resulting in an investment in the city of 2,257,115 euros.

As has been the case for several years, Spain was the country with the most film shoots in Malaga – with a total of 145 productions – followed by the United Kingdom with 19 and Germany with 7.
By type of production, Short Films were the most to be filmed in Malaga (33 productions), followed by TV Programmes (32). The third place is shared by Still Photography and Corporate Videos with 28 productions each. TV Series were the productions that left to leave the most investment (almost one million Euros), surpassing the Advertising industry in an exceptional way.
The Audiovisual Industry represents an engine of wealth for the city in sectors such as tourism (hotels, restaurants, transport …), promoting employment (direct hiring of professionals from the local audiovisual industry), as well as contributing to promoting the city on an international level.

Amongst the productions filmed in Malaga during 2017, there is emphasis on national Feature Films such as Las Pesadillas de Alberto Soto by Miguel Almanza, starring Salva Reina, Macarena Gómez, Álex Dógherty, Diana Navarro and Juanma Lara; No Exit by Patricia Parker; Croma 11 by Pablo Matute; Akemarropa by FJ Arranz; El berrido de los silencios by Jaime Ordóñez; Entre Dos Aguas by Isaki La Cuesta and Sinfin by the brothers Alenda of Transatlantic Productions and Solita Films with the participation of TVE and Canal Sur TV, starring María León and Javier Rey.

Amongst the Short Films category: 50 kilos de nosotros by Ezekiel Montes, La huída by Pablo Ros and Nacho no conduce by Alejandro Marín for ESCAC Films (Higher School of Film and Audiovisual of Catalonia).

There have also been many national TV Shows, such as La báscula, Acapela, Tu cara me suena, Ven a cenar conmigo, Canal Cocina, La aventura del saber y Aquí la tierra for TVE; Bokeron Show and Mujeres a la fuga. On an International level, productions such as the TV show Fear Factor India, the British show Hairy Bikers and the US shows 90 days Fiancé and The Challenge for MTV.

Amongst the TV Series category, we can highlight national productions such as Cuerpo de Élite (A3Media) starring Canco Rodríguez and with a cameo made by Fran Perea and shot within the vicinity of Pompidou; Ministerio del Tiempo (TVE) filmed in the Botanical Gardens, and international productions such as Black Mirror (Netflix) filmed in the Old Provincial Prison, Genius II (National Geographic), interpreted in some scenes by Antonio Banderas and shot mainly in the historic center of Malaga, and other productions like SKL Millionen Event, The Infiltrator, etc.

Documentaries include Conversaciones Ajenas by Yolaperdono and the Belgian production Painting After Postmodernism, with focus on an artistic exhibition at the Palacio del Obispo (Bishop’s palace).

Among the Advertising industry, it’s worth mentioning the photo shoot for Selected Home, Scania, Land Rover, Harley Davidson, Jaguar, Triumph Motorcycles, Hyundai i30, Gisela, Café Santa Cristina, Olimara, Formula Joven, Photo and Video KTM 200 Duke, and the commercial for Staedtler Monument, as well as Hyundai Kona, 02, Lamborghini, ACB, Monarch Airlines and Toys R Us.

And finally, amongst the Corporate Videos filmed; Sara Baras (Sombras), Cruzcampo La Fábrica, Dry Martina & San Miguel, Metro de Málaga, Marathon 2017, Perita San Miguel and Ryanair Málaga. Furthermore, Institutional videos such as Juegos Mundiales Trasplantados y ADN Canino, as well as the Malaguau App, Intensamente for Turismo Andaluz and a promotional video shot by Youtube Influencers.

Amongst the Spanish Music Videos filmed on location; Pablo Alborán with Prometo, Unai Quirós with Conectados, Pez Limon Sound with Ese dolor and Musicómanos with Adicto a imaginarte.
Many of these productions are already available for viewing on the Malaga Film Office YouTube channel.

As a summary, since its creation in September 2001, Málaga Film Office has attended a total of 4,767 projects, of which 2,299 were finally shot with an economic investment for the city that exceeds 51 million euros (51,189,131 euros).
